General Personality:
Before the curse, Kristoff seemed to be a loner though he never really viewed himself that way. He always had Sven by his side and gained a family in Anna and her sister. After meeting his fiance, his heart of gold began to show. People seemed to be warming up to him in Arendelle after he started to appear more approachable. Since he had always spent his time in the high mountains, he hadn't had very much experience with people. His conversations were limited to talk about the ice when he was at work. Outside of work, when he wasn't around his rock troll family, his conversations were a bit one-sided with Sven (even if he did talk back to himself in a funny voice).
Now that he's cursed, however, it seems Kristoff has turned back into his loner self. He's not known to put up with anyone's nonsense, and is usually only looking out for himself. Kristoff doesn't have a lot of friends in his new life, and many of the residents of Storybrooke tend to find him weird. He's always talking to animals, and getting along with them better than people. It isn't that he wants to be alone, he's just not willing to put his trust in people. They always seemed to be letting each other down.
History:
Fairy Tale History:
Being cursed, Kristoff has no idea who he really is or the fact that he's a character out of a fairy tale. He thinks he's a man named Caleb Winters. An entire false history was created for him. Caleb was born on a small farm house, and moved into Storybrooke when he was eighteen. He wanted to get away from his parents who where always trying to get him involved in the community of the small town not to far away from the farm. They thought he was weird, just like everyone he encountered in life did, since he was always making conversation with the cattle. His parents didn't try to hide what they thought of him either, constantly poking at his self-esteem until it was almost non-existent.
In Storybrooke, Caleb never went back to visit his parents. He never had contact with them in any way, and thanks to the curse being in effect, he didn't find it odd in the least bit. He didn't even think about it. Caleb took a job at the local pet store and animal shelter (which were like a two in one), and worked his way up from there. Eventually, he owned the entire business. The animals of Storybrooke were rarely adopted, but Caleb never gave up on a single one.
Caleb's social life outside of the animal-type was almost non-existence. Sure, people in town knew who he was, but they didn't usually bother with him much. There was polite conversation that seemed completely unavoidable at times, but no one cared past that. He does feel like something is missing, but can't ever place it. Twenty-eight years have passed and gone completely unnoticed. Caleb hasn't aged a day, yet nothing has appeared out of the ordinary for him.
Fairy Tale History:
At a very young age, Kristoff lost his parents to an avalanche. He and his best friend, Sven the reindeer, were adopted by Grand Pabbie and the rest of the rock trolls. They were curious creatures with a lot of wisdom. Growing up, Kristoff was an ice carrier for Arendelle. He cut chunks of ice out of frozen lakes and delivered them to those who needed it. When he matured, he became promoted to ice master where he basically did the same thing, only now he was able to direct the other workers as he needed. It didn't make a ton of money, but Sven was never without his carrots.
Later in life, Kristoff met a princess named Anna. At first, he wasn't entirely fond of her. Anna was an odd girl with way too much energy. Yet, somehow she managed to convince him to help her find her sister, who had frozen all of Arendelle. There was no longer any need for an ice master if the entire kingdom was covered in it. During the journey, Kristoff did something he would have never expected and fell in love with Anna. Her annoying quirkiness grew on him, and he began seeing her as adventurous, strong, and free-spirited. Shortly after the quest had ended, the two became engaged. (Since, you know, she'd known a guy for more than one day this time.) Unfortunately for him, it seemed like everything kept getting in the way of the two actually getting married. The biggest thing was when Anna discovered unexpected news about her parents. Wanting to go and investigate, Kristoff agreed to hold off their wedding. He knew that it was an important cause, and the fact that Anna was diving in was just another thing he loved about her.
When Anna went on her journey for her investigation to Mist Haven (The Enchanted Forest), Kristoff had promised to stay behind with Elsa. His job was to keep her from worrying too much. Not long after, word was given to the kingdom that Prince Hans and his brothers had a plan to take over Arendelle. Kristoff then traveled to the mountains to spy on them, where he learned more details about the plan. They intended to get rid of Elsa by trapping her in a magic urn. Kristoff then suggested that they destroy the urn, as he had done when news of the thing first spawned. Both Elsa and Kristoff traveled to the cave where the urn was, only to be stopped by Hans and his brothers who had gotten their first. Hans threatened to kill Kristoff unless Elsa cooperated. Against Kristoff's wishes, Elsa agrees in order to save her sister's fiance. Before Elsa is trapped away inside of the urn, she insists that Kristoff find Anna and save Arendelle.
Afterwards, Kristoff headed off for the Enchanted Forest. He searched for days with little luck, asking everyone he could if they had seen his fiance. He met all kinds of sketchy people and those that seemed like saints. Just like Arendelle, the Enchanted Forest was full of diversity and surprises. At the same time Kristoff was searching, another problem arose. The Enchanted Forest was being put under a curse, and Kristoff got sucked into it. A new life was created for Kristoff inside of Storybrooke, and his memories were erased just like all of the other residents.
