Colin stood in front of the library, staring up at the clocktower. He had come to see if the library was open yet, and to his dismay, it was not. It had been closed for some time, and he had always hoped it would reopen soon. He felt that others would be uncomfortable with him showing up at the school to get things from that library, so he opted for not doing that. For some reason, he could not stop staring at the clock tower. Something about it captured his attention and made what felt like a memory itch at the back of his mind.
He was drawn to it, and after a long time of standing and gawking at the hands on it's face, Colin decided to go in. It took him some effort, but he managed to find a way in that led to the tower. Approaching a nearby wall, he found a sign that gave directions to the tower. Under the words 'clock tower' it showed a picture of a stairwell and had the words 'second stair to the right'. He looked around until he located the stairs and began his ascent. After reaching what he thought was close to the top, he glanced around again, and located a second sign that read 'Straight On 'Til...' The final word was rubbed out. Colin considered this and shrugged.
He was certain he could find his way. It was a short hallway, and he quickly found a door and short set of stairs that led behind the clock face. It was cozy, and felt like people might have been up here fairly recently. He found a chair and sat down, looking at the backside of the clock for a long time before pulling out a book. It was his favorite book 'Tir Na Nog', the land of the young. Being an adult seemed to mean reading older folks books, but Colin much preferred the adventures of the young. Teen fantasy being his favorite. Though he had no problem reading just about anything.
He set the book down and reached into his bag for his.... He blinked. Normally he would have taken the time to play an old piccolo of his, but it had broken recently. He had been really bummed, and had meant to take a trip to that pawn shop in town, but had forgotten. "Well, there is always later on. I definitely need a new one." He said to himself. He sighed heavily and reached for his book.

I felt the darkness as it tried to pull me down The kind of dark that haunts a hundred year old house Murmur was glad to be out of that place, happy to be free even if it was just for now. He knew they were looking for him. He knew they wanted him back. He knew to much about the curse. Even if no one would believe him, they didn't want to take any chances. Right now, he was just focused on hiding. He would camp out, moving to different spots anytime it felt like people were getting too close. That was the plan. It would have to happen often since apparently Murmur couldn't manage to control his night terrors. He was constantly waking up screaming, taking full minutes to piece reality of his surroundings together in his mind after. People would hear. If there was one talent he had even without his magic, it was being loud.
His current place of residence was the old clock tower. No one ever really went up here, and with the library being closed, it just seemed like the logical place to go. It was far enough up that if he did happen to scream in his dreams, he might be safe from being heard. Murmur wrapped himself in an old, ratty blanket he'd found outside last night. He wanted to try and take a nap, being completely bored out of his mind.
Just when he closed his eyes, about to drift into sleep, his eyes shot wide open. Footsteps. He was sure of it. "Thunk... thunk... thunk..." he whispered to himself, realizing that they were headed up the stairs to the clock tower. "Someone's coming. They found me. They're coming... Don't take me." He was panicking to himself, jumping to conclusions that they were here to lock him back up. "You can run, Mur. You can jump a window. You can r- You can hide."
He jumped up and dived behind an old book shelf that must have been moved up for storage. "Good boy, Mur. Good boy." He twitched, sitting down to wait for the intruder to go and pass. He hugged his knees to his chest. "Stay quiet. Stay quiet. No sound...." He whispered as quietly as he could manage. He knew talking was dumb, but it was like he just couldn't control himself.
Someone came in. There wasn't a lot of room up here, so they weren't exactly all that far apart. Murmur put a hand over his mouth, slowly moving his teeth to chew on his own fingers in order to keep himself from making noise. Any distraction was good. Silence was awful, but being caught would be worse. Words. The intruder spoke. About what, he had no idea. But it was noise to shred through the quiet. He wished he would talk again. Talk again... Talk again... Talk again... The drugs were still in his system, and he assumed some of them probably did a lot of permanent damage. That was okay. He wasn't worried. As soon as this curse was broken, there would be a possibility for magic. Magic could fix it, right?
He put a hand to his head, practically slapping it. It hurt. It stung. It felt like tiny little needles were jabbing at his brain. He needed a distraction. "Talk again, dammit or I'll rip out your insides!" He found himself calling out, but then smacked his head again on purpose. He hated those people for doing this to him. He felt ruined. | | 569 words | yup. |

Colin leaped to his feet and backed away from the direction the voice had come from. He could feel his heart pounding in his chest, but one would be surprised to learn that it was not fear that drummed in his ears, but curiosity, and excitement at the shock. It would have surprised Colin, feeling this way, had he not been far more focused on the place the voice had come from.
"Is someone there?" He took a step forward, mentally kicking himself. Of course someone was there. They had spoken, clearly, but he found it impressive that they had managed to stay silent for so long. "I won't hurt you." The first instinct was that it was a person that did not belong here. But, then he realized there were many other options. He bit his bottom lip in displeasure when he realized this could very well be someone that was supposed to be here.
And if this were a person that was supposed to be here, they would know he was not supposed to be here. IF that were the case... They could get him in trouble, or arrested, or...Even worse. He could be kicked out and banned from the library forever, whether it was open or not. For a brief moment Colin felt panic at this thought, and considered grabbing his things, or just making a run for it. He glanced at the door and took a step in that direction, then stopped.
Something inside of him told him to not run, though it felt as if his body desired this more than anything. He looked back to where the voice had come from, and slowly grabbed his backpack. He sat down on the floor and pulled out his lunch. It was something he had read in his favorite book, the sharing of a meal could bring trust and fellowship. His book! He realized suddenly that the voice was much closer to his prized possession, and if he made a lunge for it, it would be a m
"I don't have much... uh... voice guy... but you can have some of my sandwich if you like? I also have a couple of drinks in my bag... uhh a banana... and uh..." He rooted around in the bag for a moment. "Well I have some chocolate? I am really sorry if I freaked you out. I didn't know anyone was up here." |

I felt the darkness as it tried to pull me down The kind of dark that haunts a hundred year old house Was someone there? Really? Of course someone was there! Didn't he pay enough attention to all the noises surrounding him. He really didn't appreciate anything. Oh well. He took a breath, letting it go. At least he spoke again. He created sound. His mind felt as though it was slipping in to just a little more ease. Not that it would last, he was sure of it.
Still, even after that, he wasn't sure if he wanted to move. If he moved, he would be giving himself up completely. He hugged his knees tighter. This person had to ask if someone was there. Maybe he hadn't actually been fully aware yet. Maybe he could just sit here until he went away.
"Hurt me? Hurt me?! It's going to be me that hurts you." Okay, so sitting there unnoticed wasn't going very well for him. His threats were pretty much empty in Storybrooke, but that never seemed to stop him from making them. The shelf barrier was probably muffling his exact words, so if it was someone coming to take him back, maybe they wouldn't be too harsh on him. Then again, those people were pure evil, something he fancied himself at one point in time. He really couldn't wait to go back to that.
Then his ears perked up again. He was being offered food? "Don't go! It's a trap!" He shook his head. "But I'm so hungry..." He rubbed his temples, trying to help soothe the aching headache. "Trap!" Ugh! Why couldn't he focus on anything clearly? His mind was just so damn clouded.
The temptation of food, mixed with the current episode he seemed to be having, brought him to his feet. Slowly, he took a few steps to the edge of the shelf and peeked around it. "You have food?" Apparently that was something he wasn't able to pass up, though his gut kept telling him what an awful idea revealing himself was. | | 326 words | yup. |
