feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Aria Johnson wasn’t normally walking around the streets of Storybrooke. She’d been freed from her captor just a year ago, but kept under observation in the hospital because they were worried about mental issues. However, she was unhappy with the whole ‘sticking in one place’ thing. She’d done that for over a decade with that man, and she didn’t want to be cooped up any more than she had to. And so here she was, sneaking out of the hospital to simply go for a walk. She had to dodge the hospital personnel, but for some reason she was really good at sneaking around, light on her feet.
She pickpocketed one of the guards’ key card and swiped it to get out, barely managing to dodge the front check-in nurse who had turned around to get a bowl of some sort of pasta for her lunch. But she did, luckily and she took a deep breath when she was on the other side of the door. She’d gotten this far before, now it was for the hard part. She slowly made her way through the people, covering her face as much as possible, once getting stopped by someone who thought she was someone else, causing Aria to nearly have a heart attack.
As soon as she was outside, she made a mad dash for nowhere in particular, just wanting to get far enough away someone in the hospital couldn’t look out and recognize her. She’d never gotten this far before and she laughed, and began to twirl as she ran, enjoying the fresh air. Slowing her step, she slowly made her way through town, finally stopped at the docks. She sat at the edge of one of the empty docks and dipped her feet in the water. It felt great to be free.

Neal had nothing to do for his day, so he'd gone down to the docks to rent a small boat that he could take out. He had always tried to hate boats, given his childhood past with pirates, but he could never manage to get himself to dislike the wind against his fast when he was sailing through the water. It was pleasant and very calming. If nothing else, it was good for releasing some of his tension. Maybe one day he would actually get a boat for himself, thought it would be kind of inconvenient considering he planned to go back to New York after his work in Storybrooke was all taken care of.
When he approached the dock in which his rental boat was anchored on the side of, he noticed a figure in the distance. The closer he got, the more he realized that it was a woman, dipping her feet in the water. When he was near the end, he keeled down by the edge of his boat and started to pile in his bags. For a moment, he looked back at the back of the woman's head and smiled. "It's a nice day out, isn't it?" Neal spoke. "I bet the water feels great."
He wondered what his father did on days like this with that woman. There was no way their relationship was as peachy as it seemed. Something just felt completely off there, and he was willing to bet Rumple was manipulating her in some way. This wasn't helping to set his mood for relaxation, but he always found himself coming back to these same thoughts lately. | 274 words yup. |

feel the light shining in the dark of the night | Aria turned around and looked at the man who had spoken to her. She smiled and turned her upper body so she could see him better. Something was familiar about him, but she couldn’t quite place where she could’ve seen him before. After all, she hadn’t really been out and about at all, at least for most of her life. Sometimes she wondered where her parents were, since they didn’t seem to ever visit her, but were paying for her ‘treatment’.
She wondered if her parents even really cared about her. Locking her up like that. She wasn’t crazy, thank you very much. Maybe a bit shaken, but really, she was just fine. Obviously she was clever enough to escape from that place. Maybe she could convince them to let her go. And then she could live her life. She always wanted to just live her life, live the life she was meant to live, and not be trapped anywhere. She wanted to be free to do whatever she wanted, to grow up.
She looked down at her feet in the water and then up to the man. “It feels wonderful, thank you.” Aria looked down at the boat and tilted her head curiously. “Are you going to go out with that?” Like many things, she knew what the theory was but hadn’t really seen very much. She wondered how it would feel. To have the ground wobble beneath her, the balance on the water, to have the wind blow in her face. Maybe she could try it someday.
