After Emma had finished up her work at the Sheriff’s office, she decided to take a stroll through the town for a bit before she decided to head back to where she was currently staying. She needed a bit of a breather before she decided to turn in for the evening. Emma walked along the sidewalk, her boots clicking against the pavement. She made her way over to the docks and decided to take a seat upon a bench that was there. Everything was happening so fast for her to the point where she didn’t know what to do. She just needed a chance to sit down and think about some things. Some time to herself would do her some good. According to Henry, everyone in the town was apparently connected to a fairytale character. It was a bit hard to believe, but she wasn’t going to crush her son’s views like that. After all, she wanted to be a good mother to him even though she thought that it would be a good idea to give him up while she was still in prison. She didn’t want that kind of life for him. She wanted him to be happy and to have a shot at a good life. Even though Regina was a bit questionable, Henry seemed to be happy in Storybrooke. His happiness meant a lot to her even though they barely knew each other. A sigh slipped passed her lips and she closed her eyes for a moment, enjoying the smell of the sea and the wind that was blowing through her blonde locks.

Every time Neal needed an escape from all of his thoughts about his father, his past, and Emma he seemed to find himself traveling to the docks. Oddly enough, renting out a boat every now and then seemed to do his mind some good. It was strange to think such a thing would soothe him, considering the encounters he'd had with them in his past. They weren't exactly happy memories, though sailing always seemed to make him feel... free. If only he had still been in New York... Then there wouldn't be a need for any kind of escape. That was his escape. Sometimes he questioned his decision to come to this town, but he always reminded himself his reasons were valid.
After he'd gotten the keys to the usual boat he took out (really he should have just bought the damn thing by now), he made his way to the docks. One one foot onto the wood, and he noticed something that caught his attention. There was a woman with long blond hair sitting on a bench in his pathway. He wondered if there was even a slight chance that it would have been Emma. Ever since he'd gotten to Storybrooke, he hadn't seen her around. Truthfully, he was a little afraid of seeing her after how things were left. He had been trying to do the right thing, breaking his own heart in the process. Deciding if it was her (basing it off solely her hair color and high hopes, of course), it was now or never. Neal took a deep breath, and walked the rest of the way across the dock. When he'd reached the woman, he quickly tapped her on the shoulder. "Hey, excuse me, I don't want to be in your way, but I'm taking that pretty boat out in front of you." | 309 words yup. |

Her concentration was shattered when someone had tapped her on the shoulder and began to speak to her. Her eyes snapped open when she heard the familiar voice and she turned around to only see that her suspicions had been confirmed. It was Neal, the man that she had actually fallen for so long ago. In a way, it felt like an eternity. She hadn’t seen him since he ended up abandoning her. She had been forced to go to jail while he disappeared and she had no idea where he was. While she was in jail, that was when she found out that she was pregnant with her son. She never even saw Neal again to tell her that she had his child. Did he even know that they had a son? She had no idea. She was snapped back to reality when she realized that she hadn’t said anything to the man behind her. “Neal..” She said and trailed off for a moment, trying to process the situation. She had been so heartbroken when he had left her alone. She actually thought that he was the one for her. That they would eventually have a life together after the hardship that they both had to deal with. She didn’t trust anyone after that and she rarely let people in. She just kept moving on with her life without a man. “What are you even doing here?” She asked before standing up from the bench and crossing her arms across her chest. Neal was the last person that she expected to see while she was staying in Storybrooke. She didn’t expect to know anyone else except for her son. Since Neal was there, she would have to tell him about their son if he didn’t already know about him. She was curious to see his reaction to that news, though. At the moment, she was on her guard. She wasn’t going to let him in even if he did decide that he wanted to be close to her again. In the back of her mind, she knew that it would be a good idea if she and Henry’s father were on speaking terms, but it wasn’t going to be that simple even though she knew that Henry would try to push them to be together or at least talk. Say hello to all my little nightmares They're right here, I know them well Neal pressed his lips together hard when the woman turned around and spoke to him. Emma. His heart skipped a beat as all of the memories seemed to flash into his brain. He shouldn't have been so quick to dismiss the assumption that it had been her. He knew he'd run into her eventually, but he wasn't quite ready. There were so many things he wanted to say to her, but it wasn't time yet.
If he had been in this situation a while ago, he would have been working to get her back. Now, however, all her wanted was a chance to explain himself and make things right. He didn't want her to hate him. They were in love once. That had to count for something, didn't it?
"Emma..." He spoke in a quiet whisper before taking a deep breath. "I'm here on... business." He wasn't sure how much she'd figured out about her past yet, so he was unsure if he should say something or just play it off. "I didn't expect to see you here." With that last statement, it was decided. He would play this off for now. He didn't want to get into it with her about how he knew she was the savior and that he'd lied to her about his entire past. He'd cross that bridge when it came. Right now he doubted she would believe anything he had to say anyways. Neal just needed to think of a way to gain her trust. It probably wasn't going to be easy. "...How have you been?"

In the back of her mind, she had pretended like Neal died so she wouldn’t have to deal with the heartbreak that she had gone through. But now she was currently standing face to face with the man that she had once loved. She had been guarded until she met Neal. Then he was able to break down her walls and she fell in love with him. She couldn’t deny the fact that she enjoyed the time that they spent together. There were moments in her life where she found that she actually missed him, but then she remembered that he was the one that sold her out and she ended up paying the price by going to jail. She believed that he actually loved her, but then she realized that it was all a lie. She thought that they could be happy together, but then she was just proven wrong. She was hurt and it took her awhile to heal. Unfortunately, her heart didn’t completely heal and the wounds were beginning to reveal themselves. “Business? What possible business could you have here?” She asked curiously. There must have been some reason as to why they ended up in the same town together, right? Unless she was looking too deeply into things, but Emma did want to try to find reason in a lot of things. That was just how she was. A dry laugh slipped passed her lips when he asked her how she had been. “After all of this time, you ask me how I have been? How do you think I have been?” She asked. It took every fiber in her body to not storm away from Neal. She just wanted to know why he left her. Was it something that she did or say? Did he have doubts about their relationship? She decided that for now, she would keep it to herself that they had a kid together. She didn’t want to make things more complicated even though things always seemed to find a way to make it out in the open. “You left me alone. You have no right to ask me how I have been.” She said in response. Neal Cassidy

Say hello to all my little nightmares They're right here, I know them well Neal hadn't quite thought that one through. He hadn't quite expected her to ask about the business part, but he should have known better. Emma had always been a bright woman, and that was a big chunk of her charm. Any clever comments or fun wordplay he dished out, she'd be able to answer. Finding the truth out about anything probably wasn't that hard for her. That's part of the reason why it would be surprising if she didn't know about the curse by now. He still wondered how exactly she was supposed to break it. Curses worked in mysterious ways. God, did Neal hate magic. "Uhhh, well, that's classified." He smirked, telling a lie that he knew was completely obvious. It wasn't like he could just come out and say 'yeah, I'm here to stop my father from destroying your entire little town through the corruption of magic.' He doubted it would have gone over well.
He pressed his lips together. He realized asking her that wasn't the brightest of things, but he just felt so tongue-tied. He wasn't prepared to talk to her. Neal had so many things to say to her still, and he knew this wasn't the right time. Maybe if she understood more about who she really was, he'd have a better shot at gaining her forgiveness. What he'd done was still stupid, but at the time, he'd been a coward. He couldn't stay with her, because he couldn't bare to face his own past.
Neal put up an apologetic hand, but then lowered it. "I know, I know. And I'm sorry. There are so many things you just don't understand yet, but I promise you, I had a very good and legitimate reason." It was painful to even remember what he'd done. The shame was still haunting him. "I loved you, Emma. What I did, I did for you." He knew she probably wouldn't understand, but even if he couldn't be completely straight with her now, he had to at least try and make things better. At least she was talking to him. She hadn't turned tail like he'd originally feared she would do if he'd ever encountered her again.
