Fairy Tale Name: Pinocchio.
Fairy Tale Story: The Adventures of Pinocchio.
Age: About 36.
Gender: Male.
Strengths: Smart, witty, true, loving, a will to succeed.
Weaknesses: Undisciplined, selfish, cowardly, dishonest.
Personality: Before the curse in the Land Without Magic, August was a dishonest man. He was selfish and over indulged in his pleasures. This caused him to break a promise he swore to his father and creating guilt inside of him. When he finally awoke himself up from his selfishness (and began to turn back into wood), August tried to return to his truthful self, attempting to fulfill those broken promises. As he returned to Storybrooke, August became very secretive. His actions to succeed are often disguised as wrong. It often causes August to struggle with what is right and what is wrong.
History: August Booth lived his life traveling from place to place. After fleeing from the foster home he was brought to after coming to the Land Without Magic, August never had a real home. He was raised on the wrong side of the tracks, stealing for food, pleasure, and safety. Indulging in life's greatest pleasures, August filled his mind with hopes of forgetting where he came from; suppressing the guilt he had felt for abandoning Emma and his promise to his Papa. August's life is full of regrets.
Knowing he couldn't run for long, August had to do what was right. He found Emma after an extensive search. With Emma came Neal. With the problems the couple had run into, August did the only thing he could think of: he told Neal to leave. Protecting Emma was the only thing he could try to do to make his amends.
He had awoken one morning with a beautiful woman inside his bed and an excruciating pain in his leg. The pain was a reminder of what he had run from: his life as a wooden boy. The pain was so overwhelming that August had to see a doctor. When the doctor saw his leg, he was deemed crazy. Being the only one who could see it, August rushed from the hospital in hopes of fighting off the Psych ward. On his run, he was pulled inside another room by another man with promise to help him: he had to see the Dragon, a task August followed. For a large cash fund, August would gain a serum to change him back. Unable to pay the funds, August stole the money from another "patient" and gained the serum. Before he is able to intake it, the woman stole it back and left his wooden leg untreated.
August knows only one thing can help change his process and that is making things right again. Returning to Storybrooke, August tried to make Emma believe again with hopes it would break the curse and help him stay human.
Fairy Tale History: Pinocchio was carved from a magic tree in the Enchanted Forest by Geppetto, an old craftsman. Pinocchio is able to speak and move from the bark he came from. Living in harmony with his Papa, Pinocchio often struggled with doing what was right and wrong. His actions were often monitored by Jiminy Cricket, his conscious.
After being swept away from a storm with his Papa, Geppetto, Pinocchio saved his Papa's life by letting him take the only remaining life vest. As Geppetto washed ashore, he finds his wooden son who had become lifeless from drowning. When Geppetto calls to the Blue Fairy, the Blue Fairy is pleased with Pinocchio's selfless actions and turns him into a real boy. The revival and the transition causes happiness to both the boy and the man. The Blue Fairy tells him that he must remain kind, honest, and be selfless in order to stay a boy.
When the Curse is threatened, Geppetto becomes distraught and does whatever he can to save his only son. With help from the Blue Fairy, Geppetto lied about his magical wardrobe, stating it could only hold one person (when it could really hold two). He placed Pinocchio in one of the two spots. Geppetto makes Pinocchio promise that he will take care of and protect Emma, no matter what. When the boy agrees, he is placed in the wardrobe and is taken to the Land Without Magic.
After he and Emma are found, the two are entered into the foster system together. Emma is soothed by Pinocchio and he stays close to her with hopes of leaving together some day, but promising he would keep her protected. It was soon interrupted by several children in the foster home stealing cash and wanting to escape. Pinocchio struggles with wanting to leave and asks if Emma can come along. When they state no, he leaves her behind.
